Humans make up both the Federation and the rebels, and as such are incredibly common. They do each task decently, having absolutely no downsides. They also don't have any upsides besides taking 10% less experience to level up a stat. If you lost a crewmember proficient in a certain stat they could be trained up quickly to be a replacement. However it still generally is better to get crew specialized in certain areas instead.
